Reflections On 30

Next Monday, December 8, I will turn 30 years old. I once proclaimed that 25 is “the last young age”, that is it’s the last age number that sounds young. Well I am now proclaiming 30 “the first old age.” Is it just me? Thirty sounds old. I don’t feel old. I don’t even feel thirty. I still feel twenty-one.

I don’t feel like I have been married eight years. Seems as though we just said “I do” last year. It doesn’t seem like I have been out of high school for 11 years. I don’t feel like I have been (legally) driving for 14 years. It really doesn’t seem like 16 years ago that I first picked up the guitar. I can not believe it has been about 20 years since I first got a Nintendo. Wow! It is unbelievable that around 25 years ago I first started school. Twenty-eight years ago I was right in the middle of my terrible two’s! Twenty-nine years ago I was smearing cake on my face and donning my first birthday hat. And 30 years ago the only thought on my mind was “boy, it sure is colder out here…Hey! What are you doing with those scissors???”
